What is Consular Processing?
Immigrant visa processing through U.S. embassy or consulate abroad
Who Qualifies?
You have approved immigrant petition (I-130, I-140, etc.)
Your priority date is current per visa bulletin
You are outside United States or choose consular route
You are not inadmissible or have obtained waivers
The Process
Immigrant Petition Approval
USCIS approves I-130, I-140, or other immigrant petition and sends to NVC.
National Visa Center (NVC)
Pay fees and submit documents to NVC including civil documents and financial support.
Interview Scheduling
NVC schedules interview at U.S. embassy/consulate in your country.
Medical Examination
Complete medical exam with panel physician approved by embassy.
Visa Interview
Attend interview with consular officer, bring original documents.
Visa Issuance
If approved, receive immigrant visa in passport.
Enter United States
Travel to U.S. within visa validity, become LPR upon entry, green card mailed later.

Passport valid for at least 6 months
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate (if applicable)
Divorce/death certificates (if applicable)
Police certificates from all countries lived 12+ months since age 16
Military records (if applicable)
Form DS-260 (Immigrant Visa Application)
Affidavit of Support (I-864)
Civil documents for all family members
Photos (2x2 inches)
