Process to become U.S. citizen through naturalization
Who Qualifies?
You are 18 years or older
You have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years (or 3 years if married to USC)
You have continuous residence and physical presence in U.S.
You have good moral character
You can pass English and civics tests
The Process
File N-400 Application
Submit naturalization application with fees and supporting documents to USCIS.
Biometrics Appointment
Attend appointment for fingerprints and photos for background check.
Naturalization Interview
Interview with USCIS officer covering application, English test, and civics test.
USCIS Decision
Receive approval, continuance, or denial. If denied, may request hearing or appeal.
Oath Ceremony
Attend ceremony to take Oath of Allegiance and receive Certificate of Naturalization.

Copy of green card (front and back)
Photos (2x2 inches)
Marriage certificate (if applicable)
Divorce decrees (if applicable)
Tax returns for past 5 years
Selective Service registration (men 18-25)
