What's the difference between O-1A and O-1B?

O-1A is for sciences, education, business, or athletics. O-1B is for arts, motion pictures, or TV. O-1B has slightly different criteria focusing on distinction rather than extraordinary ability.

How long can I stay on O-1?

Initial period up to 3 years for the event/activity. Can extend indefinitely in 1-year increments as long as continuing same type of work.

Can I change employers?

You can change employers or add employers, but new employer must file new O-1 petition. Cannot port like H-1B.

Is O-1 better than H-1B?

O-1 has no cap, no lottery, and no limit on extensions. However, burden of proof is much higher than H-1B. Good for those who qualify.
